DALLAS, TX: German Shepherd fights for her life after suffering horrifying injury to rear leg
Her rescuers have dubbed her “Lotus,” and she is suffering from a terrible infection and blood loss after chewing off her own foot.
Prior to being rescued, Lotus had something tied tightly around the lower portion of her rear leg; it was her own instinct to survive, as the blood flow was cut off to her foot, which made her go to the extreme of chewing off her own limb.
Lotus came to a Dallas area animal shelter with this grievous wound and on Saturday, rescue partners with Janice Wolf of Rocky Ridge Refuge, pulled her and rushed her to a veterinarian for care.
Lotus’ leg is septic, her bone is exposed and the foot must be amputated. The wounded dog suffered a tremendous amount of blood loss and the veterinarians who are fighting to save her life are unsure at this point if she will make it.
The injury has left Lotus in tremendous pain, which is being addressed with medication, and she is unwilling to eat right now, so the veterinary staff is using a syringe to help keep her nourished.
Nobody knows who did this to Lotus - nobody knows why someone would purposefully choose to inflict such pain and suffering.
Thankfully, Lotus is in the best hands right now with people who will do everything in their power to help her overcome the tremendous hurdles she is currently facing.
